Following the announcement of his eagerly-awaited debut album, Village (to be released November 2nd via Interscope Records), critically-acclaimed singer/songwriter Jacob Banks announces an extensive UK and European tour.
Previously selling out the likes of KOKO and O2 Forum Kentish Town, shows in Manchester and his native of Birmingham, the Village tour follows the successful Into The Wild tour, which saw Banks add additional dates in March due to over demand of the 2017 shows. The singer/songwriter will be taking his debut album across the continent, with dates throughout the biggest cities in Europe.
Jacob’s live shows have captivated audiences around the world, with The Austin Chronicle proclaiming the “Londoner’s voice has ‘next big thing’ written all over it,” and LA Weekly asserting "whether he’s singing or songwriting, U.K.-based, Nigeria-born artist Jacob Banks lets his art speak for itself, proving he’s a force to reckon with in the music game.” Having supported artists including Alicia Keys, Sam Smith and Emeli Sandé on tour, Jacob has gone on to play sold-out headlining tours and major festivals across the globe. Earlier this year, Jacob made his Coachella debut and performed at Sasquatch, BottleRock, and Shaky Knees, Afropunk and North Coast Music Festival in the U.S. in addition to a series of international dates. Jacob has previously played major festivals such as Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Firefly and The Meadows, with The New York Times naming Jacob one of “12 Notable Acts” at SXSW. At home, Jacob has impressed at the likes of Lovebox, the Latitude and Longitude festivals, alongside Rize Festival.
The Nigerian-born Brit introduces Village with lead single “Be Good To Me” ft Seinabo Sey. Produced by xSDTRK (Usher, Jennifer Lopez) and Laleh Pourkarim (Ellie Goulding), the track is a liberating exploration of love and longing that showcases both Jacob’s and Seinabo’s soulful vocals. “Be Good To Me” sees Jacob and Seinabo reunited after their collaboration on “Remember,” which was highlighted on The New York Times “The Playlist” as one of the best songs of the week. Listen to “Be Good To Me” here, and pre-order Village here. “Be Good To Me,” as well as previously released tracks “Chainsmoking” and “Unknown (To You),” can be downloaded instantly upon album pre-order.
Village is Jacob’s first full-length album, following his self-released The Monologue EP, The Paradox EP, and his Interscope Records debut The Boy Who Cried Freedom. Working alongside renowned producers including Paul Epworth (Adele, James Bay, FKA twigs) and Malay (Frank Ocean, Sam Smith, Lorde), Village is a collection of 14 original tracks that chronicle Jacob’s experiences and takes on life with narratives that are both personal and universal (see full track listing below). Jacob states, “Village is about celebrating the things that make us who we are, the good, the bad, and the questionable.”
Jacob’s powerful vocals and genre-bending style quickly received widespread praise everywhere from Billboard, The FADER, Complex, Interview, PAPER and NYLON, with TIME Magazine declaring, “prepare to be floored by Jacob Banks, a rising Nigerian-born British star whose soulful voice and incisive production will get under your skin from the first listen.” Jacob recently made his U.S. television debut on Late Night with Seth Meyers performing critically-acclaimed single “Unknown (To You),” which has amassed over 12 million streams. This summer, Jacob’s track “In the Name of Love” was featured as the theme song for The Equalizer 2 starring Denzel Washington, with Complex pronouncing, “Jacob Banks has the kind of dramatic, soulful voice that can make an everyday moment feel like a scene out of a movie.”
