KhakiKid
Shares debut EP Elevator Music
+ new single and video ‘Babybrown’
Rapper and star on the rise KhakiKid has today released his debut EP Elevator Music, along with new single and video ‘Babybrown’. Featuring previous singles ‘Woodstock’, ‘Sports & Tattoos’ and ‘Shlumped Up’, which has racked up over 2 million streams already, Elevator Music cements KhakiKid as an undeniably fresh presence in the burgeoning Irish rap scene, capturing the essence of summer in his unique sonic world and marking him as one of the most exciting new artists to watch in 2022.
Speaking about the EP, KhakiKid says, “I see Elevator Music as the opening Soundtrack to a movie that's being written in real time. I love the idea of listeners first stepping into the lift and not knowing what floor or world they’ll be taken to, because I’m in the exact same position as them.”

To celebrate the release of the EP, KhakiKid has shared the video for his track ‘Babybrown’, an oversatured, Wes Anderson-style slapstick DIY comedy which sees KhakiKid attempt to rescue a down on his luck neighbour. The track itself means a lot to KhakiKid; he wrote it shortly after the death of his hero, Mac Miller. “Mac was someone who I really looked up to and took a lot of inspiration from, particularly in this song. One of my favorite aspects of Mac's music was his ability to highlight the bittersweet things in life. I wanted to take a look at my life and do the same.”
The video, which KhakiKid wrote with his friends, “came from me imagining what a father son relationship would look like. My point of reference came from movies I’d watched growing up. I told Finn and Iarla, my longtime mates who write with me, the idea. From there came a huge amount of ridiculous ideas. With our reference points coming from movies, we thought it was only fair to pay homage to
“Bad Boy 2” but with me acting as an overprotective step father to a 38 year old man.

KhakiKid has had a whirlwind of a start to his career - exploding onto the scene less than two years ago, drawing in fans instantly with his alt-style and distinctive tone. Growing up in a large family in Crumlin, Dublin, sharing a room with 3 siblings, there was never a quiet moment. Huss had to grow up a lot quicker than most, and poured his heart into writing lyrics in his teen years and teaching himself to produce from his bedroom, influenced by the evolution of Mac Miller and the authenticity of Tyler, The Creator.
Following on from the artist’s sold-out 300 cap headline show in Dublin, previous singles ‘Shlumped Up’ and ‘Cozy’ have been greatly-received, with continued support from BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders, District, Hot Press, Notion, NME and more. Keep your eyes peeled on what’s next - KhakiKid is just getting started.
