Get ready for a New Year's Eve night to remember!

Hot on the heels of their sold out 3Arena shows this month, Picture This have been announced to headline the Countdown Concert at Dublin Castle on 31 December as part of New Year’s Festival Dublin. Celebrate a spectacular midnight moment with Picture This and welcome 2024 with a bang as the skies above Dublin Castle light up with an aerial visual pyrotechnics show! Picture This will be joined by special guests Moncrieff and Lea Heart.

To date, Picture This have amassed over 400 million total streams, selling out stadiums including a five-night stand at Dublin’s 3Arena, headlining Electric Picnic’s Main Stage twice and most recently sold-out their first European underplay tour in 20 minutes plus played 11 shows at Europe’s key festivals this summer. Picture This have announced their long-awaited fourth studio album, “Parked Car Conversations”, due for release via RCA Records, Germany. This album announcement follows the release of new music from the band, including the hit single 'Get On My Love' and most recently ‘Red Lights’, both tracks extending Picture This’ status as hit songwriters after their 18-month hiatus.

Sunday, December 31st – Dublin Castle (Matinee and Countdown Concert)

Rising Irish artists Moncrieff, Lea Heart and Lucy Gaffney have been announced for the Midnight Moment Matinee on December 31st in Dublin Castle. Share a magical moment on New Year’s Eve together with family and friends at the very special earlier countdown event for all ages. Children will be enchanted as they ring in the new year in the stunning surroundings of Dublin Castle with some of Ireland’s best musicians.

Irish band Picture This will headline the Countdown Concert at Dublin Castle as part of the New Year’s Festival. The skies above Dublin Castle will light up with an aerial visual pyrotechnics show and singers Moncrieff and Lea Heart will also take to the stage as the opening acts.

Ring in the New Year at the National Museum of Ireland, Collins Barracks with performances across three stages from headliners The Scratch, with special guests Sharon Shannon and Gemma Dunleavy, and performances from Ispíní na hÉireann, Lemoncello, Anamoe Drive, Krea and DJs Nialler9, Claire Beck & Blood Donor (DJ set).

Monday, January 1st

After welcoming in the New Year, make it a full day of celebrations with family and friends and hop between concerts across two venues Dublin Castle and Meeting House Square. Join the festivities at New Year’s Day Concert in Dublin Castle with live performances from Jerry Fish, Dublin Gospel Choir, Code Of Behaviour & The New Brass Kings. Experience some of Ireland’s best traditional and folk musicians in Meeting House Square at the New Year’s Day Concert on 1 January 2024 with performances from Rónán Ó Snodaigh and Myles O'Reilly, Dani Larkin, Niamh Bury and Sola. Both of these events are free, non-ticketed family friendly events.

Speaking at the official launch, Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media Catherine Martin TD said,

“I am very pleased to officially launch Fáilte Ireland’s New Year’s Festival Dublin programme today. Festivals and events are an important part of the Irish tourism offering and essential for supporting local businesses and communities all year round. These fantastic events are delivered under the strategic partnership between Fáilte Ireland and the Office of Public Works, and I am confident this year’s New Year’s Festival Dublin will encourage more domestic and international visitors to come and explore our capital city over the New Years’ period. This will drive important economic benefits for the city and enhance the work of the Night-Time Economy taskforce.”

Office of Public Works and Dublin Castle
The Office of Public Works (OPW) manages and maintains the most important of Ireland’s historic buildings and heritage. We take meticulous care of the 780 heritage sites in our charge and, at the 70 sites with visitor services, we work hard to present them to their best potential, making sure that we give visitors from Ireland and abroad the best experience we possibly can. Our sites range from Neolithic passage tombs, medieval churches and castles to Elizabethan manor houses, Palladian mansions, parks and gardens and monumental forts. Just a short walk from Trinity College, on the way to Christchurch, Dublin Castle is well situated for visiting on foot. The history of this city-centre site stretches back to the Viking Age and the castle itself was built in the thirteenth century. The building served as a military fortress, a prison, a treasury and courts of law. For 700 years, from 1204 until independence, it was the seat of English (and then British) rule in Ireland.

Rebuilt as the castle we now know between the seventeenth and twentieth century, Dublin Castle is now a government complex and an arena of state ceremony.
