22 year-old Manchester artist Phoebe Green has today shared her brand new single and video ‘IDK’ on Chess Club Records. ‘IDK’ saw instant BBC Radio 1 support yesterday evening with a First Play from Annie Mac. Dubbed "Manchester's next big thing" by DIY Magazine and a "northern pop powerhouse" (i-D), Green has quickly established herself as one of Britain's most thrilling new lyricists over the last 12 months - and ‘IDK’ goes one step further. A natural with acerbic wordplay already, ‘IDK’ -  her first new music since debut EP I Can’t Cry For You arrived in December 2020 - finds Green mining St. Vincent’s knack for a soaring chorus and a sharp as tacks guitar riff to stunning effect. The single comes accompanied by a video by Lillie Eiger.

‘IDK’ embraces the overwhelming feeling of watching life pass you by, Green explains: “‘[It] explores a complete detachment from reality, observing things from a place of total apathy and feeling as though I’m witnessing my life as a bystander with little to no connection to it. It’s a horrible state to be in, I think it happens when I get overwhelmed.” The track was produced by Kaines & Tom A.D - the production duo Alex Robertshaw of double Mercury Prize nominated band Everything Everything and renowned engineer Tom Fuller - the same team behind previous singles ‘Golden Girl’, ‘Reinvent’, ‘Easy Peeler’ and ‘Dreaming Of’.

Raised in the small seaside town of Lytham, Phoebe Green first shot to prominence with her critically acclaimed 2019 debut singles ‘Dreaming Of’ and ‘Easy Peeler’. Across those two tracks, Green received the kind of press reception afforded to only the most buzzing artists with plaudits coming from NME’s ‘100’ & ‘50 Female Creators Set To Rule 2020’ lists, Dork’s 2020 ‘HYPE List’, The Sunday Times’ 'Breaking Act', Dazed’s ‘On The Rise', i-D’s ‘Introducing’, Total Guitar’s ‘On The Up’, The Line Of Best Fit’s ‘On The Rise’, Music Week’s ‘On The Radar’, The FADER's 20 best rock songs right now, CLASH’s ‘Next Wave’, not to mention Pitchfork's coveted seal of approval for her debut single ‘Dreaming Of’ - which subsequently found its way onto Billie Eilish’s personally curated ‘In My Room’ playlist.

The release of her latest EP I Can’t Cry For You late last year drew rapturous support from Dork, DIY, Gigwise, Notion, The Line Of Best Fit and Riot, with Green earning subsequent spots in Dork’s HYPE List for the second time, and DIY’s Class of 2021. The EP’s singles ‘Reinvent’ and ‘Golden Girl’ were showered with praise from the likes of The Line Of Best Fit (‘Reinvent’ was crowned Song of the Day), NME, Dazed, i-D, Crack, The Rodeo, Music Week, Yuck, Clash and The Sunday Times.

Green’s previous singles have received extensive support at Radio 1 from Annie Mac, Jack Saunders, Clara Amfo, Phil Taggart, Emily Pilbeam, Jess Iszatt and Huw Stephens as well as earning a place on the daytime playlist (with ‘Easy Peeler’) as the BBC Introducing Tune Of The Week, with plays from the likes of Nick Grimshaw and Adele Roberts. More support has come in elsewhere from Jo Whiley (BBC Radio 2), Steve Lamacq, Lauren Laverne & Tom Robinson on BBC Radio 6 Music, culminating in a B-List addition for ‘Reinvent’, Beats 1’s Matt Wilkinson and John Kennedy (Radio X).
