Stefan Murphy is a Dublin born artist currently living and working out of Atlanta in the US. Having previously made 4 critically acclaimed Albums with band The Mighty Stef and 3 further experimental Records under the banner of Count Vaseline, Stefan Murphy will return early next year with the first ever ‘Stefan Murphy’ album and a whole lot of touring.
The singer/songwriter made his name as frontman with Dublin pop-punk group Subtonics, and later formed The Mighty Stef with bandmates Gary Lonergan, Daniel Fitzpatrick and Gaz Earle. Taking inspiration from artists ranging from Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley to Muddy Waters and the Rolling Stones, while styles including garage rock, gospel, sea shanties and traditional Irish music were more subtly represented throughout their unique sound.
His new self-titled project Stefan Murphy is returning to a more brass knuckles version of what he is known for. Standing on a stage, singing songs and telling stories. With a wealth of new material and a new album in the works, he is returning to Europe for a small string of solo shows including some Irish Dates.
The new songs are as folk as they are soulful as they are punk, echoes of influences that Stef has never shied away from can still be heard such as Velvet Underground, Van Morrison, Jonathan Richman, Townes Van Zandt to name only a few. The shows will feature a healthy dose of Mighty Stef material.
Stefan Murphy will be bringing his new tour to Dublin on January 24th with an intimate show upstairs in Whelans and is sure to be something really special.
