Halifax-raised, Montreal-based modern rock band Wintersleep has high hopes for 2017. In December 2015 they signed to busy indie label Dine Alone Records (after a stint with EMI Canada), and they’ll release their sixth full-length album,The Great Detachment

This is the follow-up to 2012 release Hello Hum. The Great Detachment was written in Wintersleep’s Montreal studio, then recorded at Halifax's Sonic Temple studio with long-time producer Tony Doogan (Belle & Sebastian, Mogwai).

The album was recorded in a primarily live-off-the-floor approach, and singer Paul Murphy notes in a label press release that “it’s a very different energy, and one that we’ve kind of missed.”

Wintersleep won a 2008 JUNO Award as New Group of the Year, thanks to their breakthrough third album, 2007’s Welcome To The Night Sky. They remain best known for the much-played single “Weighty Ghost,” a song featured in many films and TV series, including as the theme song of CBC series Cracked, and one that got them onto David Letterman.
