#MCDBehindTheLens Vol. 7 – Anamaria Meiu
“I have always been interested in taking photos to immortalise emotions.
My first experience with cameras was many years ago when a friend lent me one to use. I mainly experimented with taking photos of nature, landscape and people.
In 2007 I was in the right place at the right time when I got the opportunity to be a media assistant at a big music festival in Romania. One of my duties was to assist photographers and accompany them in the photo pit. There is where I truly experienced the power of live music up close. After the 1st day, I bought a point and shoot camera (as this was all I could afford at the time) to capture the rest of the festival. With a camera in my hands, the intensity of the live shows made a deep impact on me. So I saved enough to buy a DSLR plus a few lenses and learned how to take photos in different scenarios. The following year, I went back to the festival as a media assistant and I also photographed the festival’s staff.
In 2008 I decided to come to Ireland to study for a Master’s degree in Applied Digital Media. I fell in love with Ireland and took the decision to stay here after I obtained my degree. In between my day job, I took on some photography work and also travelled back and forth to be a photographer at the Romanian festival until 2012.
In 2013 I started collaborating with various websites and magazines to photograph live shows in Dublin. This led me to become part of MCD’s team of photographers. In recent years, I’ve got the opportunity to be an official photographer at Longitude festival and Electric Picnic.
Some of the artists I got the chance to photograph along the years includes Metallica, Iron Maiden, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, Coldplay, Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, Mumford and Sons, Imagine Dragons and many more.”
