Festivals are essential drivers of tourism revenue which is why it’s so important that we continue to create unique and engaging experiences to attract visitors and position Dublin as a must-visit city to ring in the new year. NYF Dublin is a flagship event in Fáilte Ireland’s Winter in Dublin programme and we are looking forward to announcing more acts and performers for the festival over the coming weeks.”

Rosemary Collier, Head of Heritage and Capital Works Delivery at the Office of Public Works said: “The OPW is proud to look after Ireland’s rich national heritage portfolio and we want to share that with as wide an audience as possible. Dublin Castle is the beating heart of Ireland’s capital through the centuries and has witnessed so many seminal events in Irish history. It is an iconic place where we welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors each year and it presents a great setting to celebrate the transition from 2023 to 2024, listening to a star line-up of Irish bands and musicians.”

Office of Public Works and Dublin Castle
The Office of Public Works (OPW) manages and maintains the most important of Ireland’s historic buildings and heritage. We take meticulous care of the 780 heritage sites in our charge and, at the 70 sites with visitor services, we work hard to present them to their best potential, making sure that we give visitors from Ireland and abroad the best experience we possibly can. Our sites range from Neolithic passage tombs, medieval churches and castles to Elizabethan manor houses, Palladian mansions, parks and gardens and monumental forts. As custodians of many of Ireland’s most iconic heritage sites, our role is to build a bridge between our past, present and future by connecting more people to the richness, diversity and inspiration that exist in our heritage.

Just a short walk from Trinity College, on the way to Christchurch, Dublin Castle is well situated for visiting on foot. The history of this city-centre site stretches back to the Viking Age and the castle itself was built in the thirteenth century. The building served as a military fortress, a prison, a treasury and courts of law. For 700 years, from 1204 until independence, it was the seat of English (and then British) rule in Ireland.

Rebuilt as the castle we now know between the seventeenth and twentieth century, Dublin Castle is now a government complex and an arena of state ceremony. The state apartments, undercroft, chapel royal, heritage centre and restaurant are open to visitors all year round. Plan your visit on www.heritageireland.ie.
