Today, 14th May 2025, South London’s Grammy Award winning saxophonist and producer Venna has announced his debut album, MALIK - out 5th September. It’s a beautiful rarity when an artist sees themselves as a vessel of the music, and though MALIK is a manifestation of his experiences and how he sees the world and years of craft, Venna wants MALIK to be an invitation. An invitation to let go, be present and submit to sensory experiences.

“Every experience, every memory, every conversation, anything new, any encounter has influenced how this album sounds. I might like a particular guitar tone from it, and then I bring it into my world. Everything has come and conjured into one place, and it's beautiful to also hear and see,” Venna says.

MALIK is where listeners can get lost and find themselves again. The album also features a long list of musicians including Rocco Palladino, Elijah Fox, AoD, J Warner, Marco Bernardis and longtime collaborator, Yussef Dayes.

Venna speaks on the reason behind the album title: “The album MALIK was named by my mother 26 years before the album was made. A strong name that means King or leader in Arabic. A name that I’ve lived with all my life. A name that my nearest and dearest have called me & a name that I learnt to become. Throughout the whole process of the album - I’ve had another name that I loved but I felt like I wasn’t living in my undeniable truth & what better way to live in one’s truth than naming their debut album the name that their mother named them. I present my debut album MALIK.”

Alongside the announcement and following his sold-out ICA show, Venna has also shared his upcoming tour stopping at 12 cities across the UK and EU..

The announcement of MALIK follows on from new single “My Way”, which dropped just a few days ago and saw Venna offering up lead vocals for the first time (with MALIK’s first single Prophet featuring backing vocals, the first time he’s sung on a record).  “My Way” continued to show the genreless approach Venna takes to making music. Dropping alongside a nostalgic, romantic and deeply intimate visual.

It’s been a whirlwind of a journey for Venna to arrive at this point. He’s spent the better part of three years on the road touring, while coming back to London intermittently. Often, in the spaces he finds himself in as a musician, he’s often the youngest in the room. This period gave him the confidence to embark on this next stage of his career.

In spite of his last project being over 2 years old, Venna is going from strength to strength having supported superstar Raye at Shepherd's Bush Empire last year and has a growing fanbase with an ever-expanding appetite for new music.

About Venna:

A sought out presence behind the scenes in the music world, Venna has had a hand in many musical projects we all know and love. After learning piano from the tender age of six, a young Venna moved onto the Alto Sax at 12 years old, and the rest is history.

Venna’s accolades don’t stop there, having also played saxophone for some of the biggest Afrobeat records, including “Anybody”on African Giant & “Ja Ara E” by Burna Boy on the Beyoncé Lion King album & Wizkid’s 2022 album More love, Less Ego.  In 2023, Venna was nominated at the Ivor Novello Awards as a co-writer on Knuck’s “Leon The Professional” after executive producing the “Alpha Place” project in 2022. His credits also include work for the likes of Yussef Dayes, MIKE, Amaraae, Greentea Peng, 6LACK, J Hus, Arlo Parks, AJ Tracey & many more.
